(Rock & Indie Pop)  Falling somewhere between singer/songwriter-based roots rock and indie pop, New Hampshire / Greater Boston -based Back on the Train mixes 60s, 70s, and 90s influences into crisp, melodic songs with soulful vocals, funk and reggae rhythms, and the occasional straight up dance groove.  Since forming in early 2012, Back on the Train has performed over 80 shows at venues such as Church of Boston, Johnny D’s, The Press Room, Fury’s, Penuche’s, and Waterville Valley Resort.  The band features singer/songwriter and guitarist Adam Ward, bassist /vocalist and songwriter John Dinger, and Drummer Ebenezer Hearn.  Back on the Train most often performs as a trio, but occasionally performs as a duo of guitar and bass or guitar and drums. Truffle

Tonight’s NBA Sponsor:    Lamprey Health Care

(Folk/Country/Blues) These three musicians have been creating music together since 1986. They have performed in all but ten states across the U.S., playing as many as 275 shows in one year. Truffle has achieved widespread popularity by headlining many respected venues as well as sharing the stage with international acts as Little Feat, Phish, The Band, Dave Matthew’s Band, David Lindley, and Blues Traveler to name only a few.
Truffle has released five albums (including “Nervous Laughter” on the November/Sony la- bel) as well as contributing to Gerard’s four solo records, and assorted compilations. Their music has also appeared on multiple major motion picture soundtracks. Their latest, “That’s Right” is a collection of songs penned and arranged by all the members ; with quality song writing, memorable melodies and tasty production, it is by far their most mature record to date. They have also contrib- uted to all of Gerard’s solo albums, including the 2009 release “The Zoomy Trail”; voted best lo- cal / regional CD of 2009 by Portsmouth NH’s WSCA radio. And the 2015 release “FIVE”; com- ing in in the top 15 CD’s of New England with FIVE stars by Edge Magazine.
The trio’s groove-driven acoustic style has a sound all it’s own. With elements of soul, blue- grass, R&B, and world beat, they bring a well rounded set of “music-Americana” to the stage. Their love of acoustic music, and a different set list and approach from their electric shows, creates a truly unique listening experience.

The North River Band

 Tonight’s NBA Sponsor:  Chinburg Properties

(Folk/Country/Rock) North River began as a trio in 2008. New Hampshire seacoast area musicians Dan, Vicky and Dianne played a ‘one time’ benefit show together and had so much fun they have been playing their version of Pop, Folk and Soul covers at venues in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine ever since. The Trio becomes the ‘Trio Large’ and brings along a full band for events when needed. Vicky Poland and Dianne McMillen, the vocal dynamic duo of the band, have been singing together since 2005. They began making music together in the a capella group Vocal Exchange. Taking their great vocal harmonies one step further, both Vicky and Dianne lend their singing talent to the Funky Divas of Gospel. Chippy and the Ya Ya’s

 Untitled-3Tonight’s NBA Sponsor:   The Pines

(Local Rock Band) This local favorite band formed in October of 2008 by two of the current members who had a desire to try one more time to play music. Found a “young” dude to carry the majority of the vocals. Our goal at that time was to see if perhaps we could enter a “Battle of the Bands” or 2 and go from there. We never made it to a “Battle” but we also have never looked back. Currently 3 of our member have been here since day 1, our bass player has been with us for better than 6 years and our drummer has played in the area for over 50 years and been with us for almost 2 years now. We enjoy what we do and realize that without you there is no us. ROCK ON!

In case you’re curious who we booked last summer… below was the music line up for 2016 – for reference only

July 5th 2016

Poor Howard and the Bullfrog

poor howard

Sponsored by the Newmarket Public Library

(Folk / Southern Country Blues) “Poor Howard” Stith and Mike “Bullfrog” Rogers bring alive the blues tradition that originated in the Mississippi delta region in the early 20th century.  Exposed to the music of Leadbelly, at an early age, Howard carries on that booming, but intricate, 12-string guitar style of the 1930’s bluesmen. He also plays steel guitar in the “bottleneck” style made popular by Son House and Robert Johnson. Mike Rogers draws his harmonica style from the playing of Sonny Terry, and although he has mastered many styles from folk to country, he captures perfectly the southern country blues of the depression. Together, they bring alive this important era of southern music. Songs are also punctuated with folk humor and one-liners to keep the audience amused.

 July 12th 2016

Mr. Nick & The Dirty Tricks

nick

 Tonight’s Sponsor:  Chinburg Properties

(Soul / R&B) After winning several awards including Blues Audience Magazine’s “Blues Band of the Year” Mr. Nick & the Dirty Tricks is quickly emerging as one of New England’s hottest Blues acts.  They have been named one of the top 20 bands in Boston sandwiched right between the Dropkick Murphy’s and The James Montgomery band and their record “Oh Wow” was named one of the top 25 records in the country by Alternate Root Magazine. They have been taking the Blues world by storm and winning over converts everywhere they play. Performing an eclectic selection of early Jump Blues, lesser known Chicago Blues nuggets and sure-fire originals, their high energy show never disappoints.

A Few Abide

a few abide

Tonight’s NBA Sponsor:  Newmarket Community Church

(City / Western) Boston Musicians formed this trio in 2014 to perform, abide & what have you.  They play various cover tunes (a good amount you rarely if ever hear) from different genres often with their own twist!  They deeply care for artistry of music, the song-writers passion, the song itself, and the players who emote; and the feeling it delivers.  Tony Gallo (bass/vocals): Tony has been singing and playing music since 1979.  Taking a bit of time away from music to raise a family in late80’s/early 90’s; Tony soon found out about some local musicians playing at a blues jam and that lead to studying jazz standards and getting back into music- eventually full-time.  Tony recording “Something To Say” reached the Grammy pool in 2003 in 5 different categories.  TG is a founding member of White Lightnin’ too. Most recently TG has found a keen interest in country & bluegrass as well as folk and more.  John DiTomaso (ukulele/vocals/horn): John is the consummate musician who also teaches Music Technology at Arlington High School as well as horn (Trumpet/Flugelhorn), his first instrument. John is never at rest when it comes to anything Music.  He’s a member of the band White Lightnin’ as well as Madhouse and is a sought after session player too! He spent timeas music director for Follow Hymn Gospel Choir/Building Bridges Thru Music and even wrote a multi-media piece based on the struggles and tribulations brought on by Civil Rights Movement.  Tom Carroll (acoustic & electric guitars): Tom is a graduate of The Berklee School of Music in Boston.  He currently plays in several Boston area Blues, Rock, and Country bands including The Few Abide.  TC has traveled to Memphis twice for music competitions as well as other destinations to play shows. Tom is a talented and sought after guitarist; a real professional!  Besides his busy playing career with his bands, Tom has enjoyed teaching students the guitar, ukulele, and banjo for over ten years.
